I am hoping to focus on technology for the blind and for the deaf. Specifically, I am interested in a device that allows the blind to "see" with their tongue. The technology has been in development for several years, but it is an important tool for the blind as it could promote more independence.
The latest story I have found on it so far was written in 2010. I will keep looking for something newer, but this story could provide some leads for sources.

There is also a braille reader device that connects to smartphones so the blind can read messages on their screen. This story was published Jan. 3, 2014. It is a much more recent development and may be more applicable to this story.
